Music in Western Civilization

Product description

Music in Western Civilization

J.M. Dent London - Reissue 1963

Hardback book in fair condition considering its age. No dust jacket. Scuffs and dents along the edges of the cover, and fore edges dust-worn and yellowed. Cover sheet has writing on it, and the book was a secondary school library copy so contains stamp on the inner cover and sticker/plastic marks. Other than that, internal pages clean and intact.

Lang's monumental history of music and musical culture has stood for the past half-century as the definitive work of its kind.
The scope of the book is vast, beginning with the music of ancient Greece and ending with that of the first two decades of the twentieth century. But music is not viewed in isolation. Rather, the author presents music as one of the many arts that, taken in conjunction, form the essence of the artistic spirit of an era.
