Hardback, unclipped dust-jacket, 376 pp. Second edition 1954, first published 1951, covers works up to 1951 (e.g. Graham Greene). Jacket has normal handling wear to edges and small tears,. Cover is beige cloth with red lettering. Inside the condition is excellent for age, text is clean and clear. On the front and rear free end papers there are two narrow vertical panels of tanning and similar border marking on the front and rear pastedowns. Page block edges are clean and smooth, with minimal signs of wear. An essential companion to the literature of the first half of the 20th century.
