Rare First Edition (1st Issue) of Thom Gunn's first book of poetry, Fighting Terms. Published in 1954, this was also the first hardcover book published by Fantasy Press.
Because of an error in the text on Page 38 (the word 'though' in the first line of Tamer and Hawk should read 'thought'), a corrected 2nd issue of the First Edition was published quite quickly after the 1st. Both issues are highly collectable due to only 305 copies being printed in total, but the First Edition 1st Issue is most sought-after.
Yellow cloth with red titling and no dustwrapper, as issued. This is an ex-library copy but it is not in bad condition despite that, and the binding is firm. There are signs of wear on the cover edge and spine, and a small mark on the front cover, but it is not obtrusive. A slight grubbiness due to its history as a library book, and some foxing on the front and back endpapers as is common with this book, but the pages inside are clean. The old-style library ticket with pocket and pasted-in issue log are still present, which confirm its age, and there are three library stamps in total (on title page, first page and last page), but they are neat and do not cover any of the text.
