Lupercal, Ted Hughes's second collection, contains many of the unsettling and vivid animal poems for which Hughes is so rightly celebrated, including 'The Bull Moses', 'Hawk Roosting' and 'Pike'. This is the 1971 sixth impression of the book first published in 1960. It is ex-library, with stamps on the front end paper, title page and contents page, the ticket pocket and returns label are intact. The book has light purple covers and gilt titles; library reference numbers are written on the spine. The jacket, enclosed in a polythene sleeve, has suffered handling wear, with a large portion of the lower spine and back cover missing, approx. 7cm x 5cm, and smaller areas missing on both side of the top of the spine; corners are worn, with small chips. The front and rear of the jacket have some slight general marks and areas of light dust-soiling.
A highly praised book from the celebrated poet who became Poet Laureate in 1984.
