Poems of dedication

£9.99

Product description

This book is in good condition throughout. The pages are hand cut. The jacket, however, has some tears around the edges and on the spine.

This is Mr Spender's first volume of poems for five years. It represents only a part of his work during that time, but a part which forms a unity by itself and which must therefore appear as a volume by itself. These poems are at once poems dedicated to people and poems of self-dedication.

The first six poems constitute an elegy dedicated to the memory of Margaret Spender. After this group of poems commemorating a death, follows a group of poems on themes of birth, love and separation. The third group of poems Spiritual Exploration is the most sustained attempt by the author to integrate a view of the isolated situation of the individual, with an heroic idea of the re-creation of modern man's conception of life. The last group, of landscapes and seascapes, reaches beyond the personal preoccupations of the other poems into a wider detachment.
