Sursum Corda! The collected Letters of Malcolm Lowry

£39.99

Product description

Malcolm Lowry, author of "Under the Volcano", was also a writer of superb letters. Collected here for the first time are close to 800 letters spanning over 30 years, most of them never before published. Lowry's letters range from his detailed, erudite, 35-page exegis of his masterpiece to impassioned letters and notes to his wives. They include witty, ironic self-parodies, letters to younger writers full of generous advice and literary discussion, and letters with analysis and acute insights into politics and current affairs.;Lowry frequently illustrated his letters with drawings, marginal sketches and symbols of good cheer, such as the seagulls which adorn many of the later letters. These illustrations have been produced in both volumes of "The Collected Letters of Malcolm Lowry" together with many photographs of Lowry, his correspondents, and reproductions of holograph letters. These two volumes published in 1995 and 1996 (volume one covering 1926 to 1946 and volume two covering 1946 to 1957) are in very good condition and appear unread. The dust jackets have some very minor creasing around the folds and edges of the spine from how they have been stored and volume two has a few smudge marks on the back of the cover. The hardback covers are in good condition apart from some creasing around the top and bottom of the spine from how they have been stored. There are a few scratches to the page blocks, only visible when the books are closed, but otherwise the pages (690 in volume one and 1,000 in volume two) are clean and appear unread,
