The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam

£40.00

Product description

Published in 1965 this book is in good condition for its age. The book is ex-library stock with the original library labels etc still in it. The book has the library's ' withdrawn' stamp in it and a little writing on the 3rd page.

The dust jacket is unclipped. The plastic covering is torn at the top and bottom of the spine; other than that it is in good condition for its age. There is minor dirt in places but that is expected for its age.

Long one of the best known and most widely quoted poems in the English Language, Edward Fitzgerald's exquisite paraphrase of the Rubaiyat of the astronomer-poet of Persia is here presented in the same format and with the same illustrations as the famous Golden Cockerel Press Edition. The text is that of the first edition of 1859, which contained Fitzgerald's original version (greatly revised editions appeared in 1868 and 1872). It is prefaced by Fitzgerald's biographical essay on Omar, in which he also discusses some of the problems and methods of translation. The illustrations are in black and white.
