This huge book is of immense use as a source of reference on the bloody battlefields upon land and sea of the greatest military and naval conflicts spanning five centuries of warfare. Illustrated with 130 stunningly reproduced contemporary maps, from The Battle of Pinkie Cleugh between england and Scotland in 1547 (the earliest map printed in the British Isles ); to the Boer War at the end of the 19th century. In between there are maps and battle plans of great military and naval campaigns including Waterloo and Trafalgar. Also included on the naval side: Copenhagan, Nile, English blockade of Cadiz, naval campaigns in the seven years War, Toulon 1744, Vernon's raid on Puerto Bello, naval attack on Genoa in 1684, the Spanish Armada, Drake's voyage to the West Indies an 1585-6 and more.
