Our Home Railways: How they began and how they are worked

£46.50

Product description

Serious shelf wear due to the age and weight of the book. Pencil inscription found within book's front cover. A couple of pages have fallen out, and others are in the process of doing so.

Our Home Railways details the growth of the British railway system. Through a thorough process of gathering patent specifications, Acts of Parliament, and reports of industrial meetings, as well as clarifying the accuracy of such documents with relevant parties, W. J. Gordon has ensured an officially verified first book on the workings and development of British railways.

This book also contains 36 original coloured plates of "engines, carriages, and armorial bearings", made by W. J. Stokoe. The writings of W. J. Gordon are also accompanied by 300 illustrations made from photographs taken around the workings of the British railway system throughout the past, most of which were taken with the acknowledgement of locomotive superintendents, engineers, and numerous other workers.
