Railroading in the land of infinite variety

Product description

Railroading in the land of infinite variety - A history of South Dakota's railroads.

Author: Rick W Mills

Railroad enthusiasts and historians acknowledge the vital roles that the railroads played in the development of the high plains. They also recall the vast number of problems and abandonments that have occurred in the area. Many do not realise the number of railroad lines that remain exist at all, or that the railroads that currently operate in South Dakota are the evolved entities of at least twenty three predecessor lines that pioneered rails in the state. It is a great study, in many facets, of South Dakota's development as the railroad history evolves after 1861, the year that President Abraham Lincoln created Dakota Territory. The story not only becomes one of the territorial, and later state, influences over the railroads, but the great powers of the railroads in creating the state we know today.

This book represents approximately 15 years of collecting information, recollections, and photos of the railroads in South Dakota by the author.

The book is in very good condition.

The book has creasing along the centre of the spine.

The book has very minor creasing along the outer edge of the front cover.
