Arcana caelestia

£9.99

Product description

Prior to His expounding 'in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself' the Risen Lord had said to the two walking to Emmaus, 'Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?' Sufferings (or temptations) of body, mind, and spirit--as shown in Volume Two fo Arcana Calestia--began for Him 'in childhood and youth, and they grew increasingly severe during those years and then throughout His manhood. The severest and inmost of His temptations therefore came last of all, the outward and visible manifestations of them being the agony in the Garden of Gethsemane and the passion of the Cross. These final temptations form the subject here in Volume Three, in particular in the explanation fo Genesis 22. The inner or spiritual meaning of the narrative describing Abraham's obedience to sacrifice Isaac as God had commanded him has to do with the depth our Lord's greatest sufferings: also, as a consequence of these, with the achieving of that perfect union with Him of Divinity and Humanity, and of the salvation of His people from the dominion of hell.
The subjects discussed in this volume in between the main expository sections deal with young children in the next life; our faculty of memory after death, the gentiles in the next life; how marriages are regarded in heaven; and human freedom.

Description:
Good condition; shelfwear on dust jacket; denting and bending of pages 390-417 on the top edge (see picture); inside clean.
