Saint Francis of Assisi Mirror of Perfection - Brother Leo of Assisi - 1899

£18.99

Product description

Brother Leo (died 1270) was Secretary and Confessor to St.Francis (1181/82-1226), one of a small group of trusted companions. It is believed this book was compiled after Brother Leo's death based on stories that he told and on his writings. The book contains a Preface written by Sebastian Evans who translated it (from Latin presumably) and an Index at the rear of the book.
Brown cloth covers with 'S.Francis of Assisi' in gilt lettering on the front cover. The title and the publisher are in gilt lettering on the spine. The corners of the book turn inwards and are bumped. The spine is slightly bumped at the top and bottom and shows some wear. The top of the front cover has a bump. The top edge is gilt. The fore edge shows some tanning and foxing (and a small red ink stain at the top of the first few pages) as do the inside front and rear covers. The top and bottom edges also show some tanning and foxing. There is tanning and a water mark on the end papers. The frontispiece has a sepia illustration of St.Francis and Brother Leo separated by a sheet of india paper from the title page. The pages are generally clean and the binding is good.
