The New English Bible: Apocrypha - First edition, 1970

£9.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

First edition of the Apocrypha volume of the New English Bible, published in 1970 by Oxford University Press & Cambridge University Press, with a preface by Donald Ebor, Chairman of the Joint Committee. Hardback with green boards.

The New English Bible was a translation of the whole Bible in current English undertaken by the major Christian bodies (other than Roman Catholic) of the British Isles. It was not a revision of the Authorized Version, nor was it intended to replace it. As with the publication of the Authorized Version in 1611, the books known collectively as the Apocrypha were made available at the same time as the Old Testament. Their translation was made directly from the best Greek and Latin texts, using all the resources available to scholarship at the time.

Hardback in very good condition with a few marks to page ends and some light tanning. Dust jacket is unclipped but rather worn at the edges, especially at the top, with scratches and fading to the spine. Internally, pages are bright and free of inscriptions, and binding is sound.
