This is a set of four books, volumes 1-4 of the Pentateuch, comprising Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers. (Deuteronomy is not present).
The Pentateuch, Haphtorahs and Prayers for the Sabbath: comprising the afternoon service of the eve of the sabbath; inauguration and evening service; morning and afternoon service; to which is added tables showing the time of commencing Sabbath, and dates on which the portions of the Pentateuch and Haphtorahs are read for the ensuing twenty years. The books were published in 5628 - 1867, and are the second edition, carefully revised and corrected. The text is printed in both Hebrew and English.
The book covers are attractively produced with green textured boards outlined with embossed gilt borders; the spines are banded, with a red panel and a blue panel printed with gilt titles; other panels have an intricate gilt design. On the front in gilt is the name L. D. Marks. Each book has varying degrees of wear and surface loss to all edges, corners and down the spine; the bindings are sound, although volume 1 has a break down the edge of the contents page. The gilt text block edges are slightly dust-darkened. Inside pages are clean and bright; some are lightly tanned around the margins and there are occasional foxing spots, particularly to front and rear leaves.
