The aim of this book is to open up Paul's message to the Christians of first-century Philippi in a way that will bring it home with fresh force and urgency today. To the individual, Paul speaks of assurance of salvation, of joy, of suffering, of contentment, of the way forward to maturity. To the church, he speaks of division and unity, of steadfastness, of enemies, of progress. But, above all, his constant theme is Christ Himself - the One who means everything to him; Christ, the Christian's model; Christ, the source of deepest satisfaction in life; Christ, whose strength is unfailing, whose richness is inexhaustible.
