Mammal Species of the World: A Taxonomic and Geographic Reference 2 volumes

£70.00

Product description

Mammal Species of the World: A Taxonomic and Geographic Reference
2 volumes
Don E Wilson & DeeAnn M Reeder (eds)
The Johns Hopkins University Press, Baltimore, 2005; 3rd edition.
Hardback with plain burgundy slipcase; 190 x 275 mm; burgundy boards with gold titles on spines and front covers; 2142 pages plus xxxviii pages (volume I) & xviii pages (volume II). No dust jackets.
The books are in very good condition. The bindings are sound. There is very slight wear and marking on the slipcase. There is very slight bumping to the ends of the spines of the books. A very few very small dog ears, and a few creased pages here and there.
Don E Wilson is the curator of mammals and a senior scientist at the Smithsonian Institution. DeeAnn M Reeder is an assistant professor of biology at Bucknell University.
These are academic volumes not aimed at a general readership. Wilson and Reeder's Mammal Species of the World is the classic reference book on the taxonomic classification and distribution of the more than 5400 species of mammals that exist today. The 3rd edition includes detailed information on nomenclature and, for the first time, common names. Each concise entry covers type locality, distribution, synonyms, and major reference sources. The systematic arrangement of information indicates evolutionary relationships at both the ordinal and the family level. “An indispensable reference work”.
