The Nurses' Enquire Within is described on the title page as a 'pocket encyclopaedia of diseases, their symptoms, nursing treatment and much other valuable information - alphabetically arranged'. It is by E.M. Clarke, revised & collected by P.B. Bentlif, and is a new edition with additional information. The same page proclaims 'seventh thousand' in a space between the edition and the publisher. There is no date.
The book is bound in green cloth, with the Nurse's 'Enquire Within' written in black ink in a black box at the top left-hand corner. The corners are not bumped as they have been rounded, but there is some shelf wear on the edges. The spine also has the title in black, the colour is worn on the outer hinges and the head/tail caps are creased. The back cover has an advertisement for Glaxo milk.
The first front endpaper has an advertisement for the same publisher's The Hospital newspaper. The inner endpaper and following fly leafs carry a series of advertisements, with more at the back including Oxo. The inner hinges are strong, front and back, and the binding feels mostly tight (with the exception of pages 32-3 and a few others).
There are no dog ears on the page corners, because they are rounded, and the page faces are all clean. The page edges are all clean. There are a few diagrams among the text, but the advertisements form the frontispiece.
