Alice Through the Pillar Box: A Philatelic Phantasy

£6.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

This book describes itself as a "philatelic phantasy" (sic) and is a most inventive illustrative book that is produced with considerable precision and imagination. It is aimed at philatelists and "philalicists" but possibly is a bit too clever for its own good. Although it expands the "Aliceverse" with its witty and self-reverential comments which any self-respecting philatelist would understand it probably excludes many who would prefer it to be in a more layman-like style.
There is no doubting its clever and curious stamp collecting links with first day covers, airmail and ship letters and these illustrated envelopes are an absolute delight. The postmarks (such as Pool of Tears and Tulgey Road), the special issue stamps (such as Jabberwocky Centennial) the William Unready (instead of Mulready) Envelope and the "Scowling Boys" issue of Looking Glass Land (instead of the "Smiling Boy" health stamp of New Zealand) all comprise a most interesting and intellectual book.

Excellent pages, minimal edge and D/J wear.
