Bibliography and the Sociology of Texts: The Panizzi Lectures 1985

£85.00

Product description

70 pp, fold-in cover printed in two colours on parchment-textured board. Ex-library copy with two stamps on inside stating origin. Signature on title page from a "CM Turner" who could be previous owner. Minor denting to front cover and some scuffing/general shelfwear to fold-in crease. Pages clean, bright and readable.

This volume forms the published record of the first series of Panizzi Lectures, delivered to the British Library by Professor D. F. McKenzie in November and December 1985. Formed in 1984 as the result of an anonymous donation for the purpose, the lectures serve to celebrate the most notable of the librarians of Victorian Britain and the effective creator of the British Museum Library at Bloomsbury, Sir Anthony Panizzi (1797-1879). It is intended that each series of lectures should be based on original research and should be concerned with bibliography in the most inclusive sense of the word. At the same time it is hoped that lecturers will derive part of their material from the British Library's collections, which of course owe so much to Panizzi's energy and vision.
