Desire By Design: Body, Territories And New Technologies

£7.99

Product description

Desire By Design is a celebration and analysis of the possibilities offered by emerging new technologies to cut across conventional disciplinary boundaries and to challenge received ideas about gender, identity, the body, subjectivism and space. The book assembles original writings and images from varied fields and practices that together develop a wide perspective on three main areas: designing bodies; territories of information; and spatial perceptions. Contributions by critics, designers and theorists are presented alongside images by artists working in the UK, North America and continental Europe. They demonstrate to teachers and their students across the visual media, as well as to designers and museum curators, how demarcated areas of learning and making can be reshaped through fresh ways of understanding and by the use of new technologies.

Published in 1999, this paperback first edition is in a good, used condition. The page block is yellowing slightly but is otherwise clean and unmarked. The cover is rubbed a little along the edges but is otherwise sound.

Oxfam Bookshop Hexham

We relocated in January 2016 to larger premises and are now able to offer a wider range of books and music (you can come and check out your musical choices in our listening booth and also find out a lot more about Oxfam's work.). We have a new local interest section, more space for history and have extended our craft and arts offer.  We also sell cards, fair trade food and ethical cleaning and beauty products.

Hexham is a market town situated in the beautiful Tyne Valley - the ideal stopping off point before exploring Hadrian's Wall, Chesters, Housesteads and the Temple of Mithras at Carrawburgh.
