Disraeli in love - First Edition

£50.00 Out Of Stock

Product description

This first edition copy of Disraeli in Love by Maurice Edelman in hardback with dust jacket is in very good condition with little shelf wear, a faded spine and is shelf cocked but otherwise unmarked. The dust jacket has some discolouration and shelf wear. It has FFEP and FBEP which both have pictures of the character on both. There is an owners name and on the inside of the FFEP, dated July, 1972.

Against the turbulent background of England in the 1830s, with its duels, gambling halls, sponging houses and Grub Street bullies, Maurice Edelman with a novelist's empathy recreates a Disraeli far different from the stereotype of the grave courtier presenting Queen Victoria with India and the Suez Canal shares. This is Disraeli, armed with his genius and fighting in the service of his ambition not only against his political and social enemies, but also against the lulling temptations of a sensuous and beautiful woman.
At the heart of the scene is the House of Commons which Maurice Edelman brings to dazzling life through the person of Disraeli, novelist and politician, whose adventures and achievements are as fascinating today as they were when they first startled the nation almost two hundred years ago.
