Product description

Intelligence and Cognition: Contemporary Frames of Reference

Sidney H Irvine & Stephen E Newstead (eds)

NATO ASI Series

Series D: Behavioural and Social Sciences – No 38

Martinus Nijhoff Publishers, Dordrecht, Boston, Lancaster, 1987.

Inscribed on the recto of the front free endpaper: “To John Anderson for all the unseen work that made this volume possible. Sidney Irvine 26 November 1987.”

Hardback; 170 x 245 mm; glazed boards; xii & 460 pages. No dust jacket. Laid in are 2 typed sheets setting out an intellectual problem proposed as a paper but with no authorship.

The book is in very good condition with only minimal bumping to the covers. The binding is sound. The contents are clean and unmarked.

“In December 1984 a NATO-sponsored Advanced Study Institute entitled ‘Human Assessment: Cognition and Motivation’ took place in Athens. It succeeded in attracting a great many of the most eminent scholars and researchers in this area, both as lecturers and participants. The contributors to this book are mostly members of staff who taught at the Institute. The chapters they have written are designed to provide an introduction to the principal issues that arise in the study of the assessment of intelligence and cognition. Since most of the protagonists are represented in this book, the student is provided with an excellent overview.”
Consequently the book is aimed at a specialist academic, rather than a general readership.
