The Dictionary of Genealogy

WAS £4.99 £2.49

Product description

To assist genealogists of all levels, the author has produced this dictionary of ancestry research which is alphabetically arranged and contains descriptions and locations of virtually all the historical records likely to be used by genealogists, and a number of features new to manuals of family history, including explanations of obsolete terms, translations of the most-used Latin documents, and details of the numerous family history societies. Over a thousand subjects are dealt with at lengths varying from short definitions to substantial articles, supported with self-size illustrations of typical documents.; The dictionary is preceded by a "Guide to Genealogical Research" aimed at eliminating the groping and frustration common among less experienced researchers, and explaining the techniques employed by veteran and professional genealogists to progress as speedily as possible back through the generations.; Terrick FitzHugh, a professional genealogist, was one of the founders of the Association of Genealogists and Record Agents, and has been its chairman. In recent years he has been an extra-mural lecturer in genealogy for the Universities of London and Surrey, and for institutes of adult education.
