The Gift: The Form And Reason For Exchange In Archaic Societies

£7.99

Product description

In this, his most famous work, Marcel Mauss presented to the world a book which revolutionised our understanding of some of the basic structures of society. By identifying the complex web of exchange and obligation involved in the act of giving, Mauss called into question many of our social conventions and economic systems. In a world rife with runaway consumption, The Gift continues to excite and challenge. There is a foreword by Mary Douglas.

Originally published in 1950, this 2007 paperback edition is in a very good, used condition. There are a few minor scratches on the cover and there is a previous owner's name on the flyleaf. The text block appears to be clean and unmarked.

Oxfam Bookshop Hexham

We relocated in January 2016 to larger premises and are now able to offer a wider range of books and music (you can come and check out your musical choices in our listening booth and also find out a lot more about Oxfam's work.). We have a new local interest section, more space for history and have extended our craft and arts offer.  We also sell cards, fair trade food and ethical cleaning and beauty products.

Hexham is a market town situated in the beautiful Tyne Valley - the ideal stopping off point before exploring Hadrian's Wall, Chesters, Housesteads and the Temple of Mithras at Carrawburgh.
