The Rise of Party in England (The Rockingham Whigs 1760-82)

£12.99

Product description

Adopting an analytical approach within a broadly chronological framework, Dr. O'Gorman addresses himself to the basic problems surrounding the Rockingham Whig Party. Were they merely another factional group, practising the politics of self-interest? Where they, on the other hand, 'unique' in the sense that they have enjoyed a significant place in the development of party in English history? Advocating the later point, Frank O'Gorman concludes that the Rockingham Whigs owed much to both the Pelhamite Whiggism and to 'Country' ideals, but that they fused these antecedents into their own, peculiar political synthesis.

Hardback book and dust jacket in very good condition with minor signs of shelf wear. Pages are unread and tops are edged in green.
