Three Medieval Rhetorical Arts

£12.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

Published in 1985 by the University of California Press, first paperback printing. First published in 1971.

Translated from Latin, edited by James Murphy.

The three main sources are 'The Principles of Letter Writing', Anonymous of Bologna (1135 AD), 'The New Poetics', Geoffrey of Vinsauf (c.1210 AD), and 'The Form of Preaching', Robert of Basevorn (1322). A fascinating study of rhetoric in the middle ages.

This volume presents three medieval treatises on speaking and writing-three "Arts" (books) designed by their authors to assist their colleagues in the preparation of poems, letters, hymns, sermons, or any other kind of composition.

In a nice clean condition with very little sign of wear and a tight binding.. The glossy card cover is somewhat sun-faded along its edges.
