Why Therapists Choose To Become Therapists: A Practice-based Enquiry

£15.99

Product description

Almost two decades ago, the psychoanalyst Sussman concluded that the therapist's motivation for practising was a neglected area. Is this maybe a question best left alone?
This book revisits the question. The authors support Sussman's rationale for raising the issue in the first place and wonder if much has changed since he referred to it as a 'neglected' area twenty years ago?
This is an inquiry that moves from personal musing to collaborative and systematic inquiry. At the heart of the book lie six separate accounts as told by counsellors and psychotherapists in a reflective writing and peer support group. Each therapist represents a different modality and all come with very different backgrounds. These accounts are put into context of ongoing literature and viewed with reference to a survey where 238 other therapists provide their perspective on the question.

The author, Sofie Bager-Charleson, is an integrative psychotherapist and supervisor working with individuals and couples, with a special interest in relationship patterns and communication.

Published by Karnac Books in 2010, this paperback first edition is in a very good, used condition. The covers show very little shelf-wear and the text block is unmarked.

Oxfam Bookshop Hexham

We relocated in January 2016 to larger premises and are now able to offer a wider range of books and music (you can come and check out your musical choices in our listening booth and also find out a lot more about Oxfam's work.). We have a new local interest section, more space for history and have extended our craft and arts offer.  We also sell cards, fair trade food and ethical cleaning and beauty products.

Hexham is a market town situated in the beautiful Tyne Valley - the ideal stopping off point before exploring Hadrian's Wall, Chesters, Housesteads and the Temple of Mithras at Carrawburgh.
