72 pp. Good. 1892 1st edition. Authored by JG Millais, with 15 colour plates, 18 autotype pictures, 30 pictures using "woodcut" and similar print-making processes. All plates and autotypes have paper guards present. Half-bound red covers, gilt etched titles to spine. Minor shelf wear to covers, some scuffs on back cover. 5 cm open tear to top of spine. Block clean, gilt top edge. Binding remains in very good condition. Minor spotting to front papers, and occasional other pages. Dampstaining encroachment from edges to a few of the plate pages (different quality paper); none has impinged upon the images themselves, which remain vibrant. The text pages, and images themselves, remain in excellent condition. Overall, a very good tightly bound copy of Millais' well-known monograph on four primary species: Capercaillie, Blackgame, Grouse and Ptarmigan.
