Life in the Fast Lane

£9.99

Product description

Life in the Fast Lane tells the extraordinary story of the momentous 1994 Grand Prix season - the death of Ayrton Senna, the Hockenheim fire, disqualifications - as the Benetton and Williams' teams fought tooth and nail for the drivers championship culminating in the final showdown in Adelaide, the last race of the season, when Schumacher of Benetton and Hill of Williams collided. This month by month diary of the season is told by one of the mechanics. Steve Mackett is the rear jack man in the Benetton pit lane team, was himself engulfed in the terrible fire at Hockenheim and is one of the highly skilled mechanics who keep the cars in trim. His story of the frantic and unending behind-the-scenes activity in the effort to be the fastest and best in the world is a fascinating account of the high pressure world of Formula One motor racing. The long hours, the search for perfectionism, the world of sponsors, and management, the personalities of the drivers, the idiosyncrasies of the different courses and host countries and camaraderie of the team are all vividly evoked in this book. Dust jacket is slightly worn at edges but the book is in otherwise good condition. A nice clean copy.
