Maglia Rosa: Triumph and Tragedy at the Giro D'Italia

£19.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

Herbie Sykes' history of the Giro is a fascinating look at the legends, stories and myths that lay behind one of the world's biggest cycling races. It made a great companion to watching the race unfold on the TV; and coming from Rouleur it is packed with beautiful photographs, as you might well expect.

Sykes has a very informal, conversational writing style which means the book is as accessible for those unfamiliar with the history of the sport as it is engrossing for those who are. From the very start, and in particular the comical tale of Giovanni Gerbi's associates tying up signalmen in order to guarantee a win by 40 minutes in an earlier incarnation of the race, through to the darker heart of modern cycling - doping - Sykes' clear passion for the sport floods through every page, and his love for this race in particular. And as one earlier reviewer has stated, the Italo Zilioli chapter is worth the price on its own.
