The Ski-Runner

£199.00

Product description

Published in 1909 this book is in good condition for its age One page has come away from the binding and it is only a little loose in places. The cover has some staining on it and the corners have some wear.

The first edition of this book came out in 1904. When Dr Hoek brought out his German book on the subject, entitled "Der Schilauf" it was arranged between the authors that he should use as much of Richardson's matter as seemed good to him, whilst his matter should be at Richardson's disposal for any subsequent editions of Ski-Running.

This book is thus to some extent based on 'Der Schilauf', book. This version of the 'Ski-Runner' differs considerably from any of it predecessors. The most notable changes are as follows:
The historical chapter has been expanded and brought up to date. The chapter on outfit contains a great deal of information as to the best kind of wood for ski. The technical instruction, particularly that part which relates to the turns and swings, has been simplified, and greatly improved. The chapter on jumping has been expanded, and instructions for the preparation for jumping-hills has been added. There are new chapters on snow, avalanches and homemade ski.
The book contains 143 text illustrations and 20 Art plates.
There is a name inscribed in the book - probably the previous owner.
