Arctic Trader

£4.99

Product description

"Arctic Trader, The Account of Twenty Years with the Hudson Bay Company".

The 1934 introduction by Charles Camsell (Deputy Minister of Mines and President of the Canadian Geographical Society) describes the book as "a record of northern Canadian life engagingly told by one who has learned of it by living it".

Godsell F.R.G.S., joined the Hudson Bay Company as an apprentice clerk aged 17yrs and spent nearly 30 years travelling " the real North", "the North of the Fur Trader, the Mounted Policeman and the Indian". He warns that "those to whom this vast sub-arctic territory is unknown may be inclined to doubt some of the unusual features related in the narrative. It is however, just another case of truth being stranger than fiction".

An engaging "grand adventure" armchair traveller book with 16 black and white photographs.

CONDITION. The dust jacket is complete but shows considerable wear, especially to its edges and spine. The grey boards are clean with some bumping the spine edges. The red and grey titles are bright and clean. Previous owners' names on the front end paper. Grease mark on p147 No other markings, all other pages clean. Page edges lightly foxed and marked. See photographs for details.
