Product description

Title: East is West

Author: Freya Stark

A book by Freya Stark is a literary event. This new one deals with her war experiences in Arabia, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Iraq and Persia. It is written with freedom of the independent and adventurous traveller but also with an official of the Diplomatic Corps. It is profoundly personal in its human touches, comments, reflections and humour, but is is of public interest and importance in the light thrown on political events in the Middle East, their history and development and lessons to be learned from them. Miss Stark was most successful in her efforts in influencing and organizing local opinion on behalf of the Allies during the darkest days and she also had her full share of danger and excitement in the siege of the Embassy in Baghdad in 1941. The book is fully illustrated and includes her own excellent photographs.

The book has green boards and gilt lettering to the spine and gilt lettering of Freya Starks signature on the upper board.

There is bumping to the upper and lower part of the spine.

The upper and lower outer corners of the upper and lower boards have wear and tear and mild bumping.

The dust jacket has heavy wear and tear on the upper and lower edge of the spine.

The upper and lower edge of the dust jacket has wear and tear on the upper and lower board.

There is a white stain on the dust jacket on the edge both inner and outer near the centre.

There is a pencil mark on the front endpages in the upper outer corner.

The upper edges of the inner sleeve both front and rear have wear and tear.
