The Thames Illustrated, A Picturesque Journeying from Richmond to Oxford, John Leyland, Town & County Books 1983

£10.00

Product description

Hardback, unclipped dustjacket, 284 pages. Excellent condition. Was first published by George Newnes Ltd in 1901, this edition by permission of Newnes Books is by Town & County Books Ltd. in 1983. A fabulous book of black and white photographs recording the Thames as the Victorians saw it at the turn of the century, with delightful text exemplifying the authentic voice of 19th century wit, wisdom and whimsy. The jacket is in very good condition, with only slight shelf wear, normal handling marks and a small rip on the top of the spine. The blue cloth cover is in perfect condition. Inside, both pastedowns and free end papers are clean and bright; the front paper has a crease from top to bottom as if it was accidentally folded at some stage, but has now been flattened out. Page block edge is still bright with minimal handling wear. The text and photographs inside are clean and bright, as new. A wonderful record of this picturesque and historical stretch of the Thames from Oxford to Richmond.
