The Travels of Marco Polo

£20.99

Product description

Written in the 13th Century, the Travels of Marco Polo describe his journeys through Asia between 1271 and 1295 and his time in the court of Kublai Khan (1215-1294), a grandson of the infamous Genghis Khan. Written by romance writer Rustichello da Pisa from stories told to him by Marco after the two were imprisoned together in Genoa, the book became a rare popular success in an era before printing. The Travels is divided into four parts called Books; Book One describes the lands of the Middle East and Central Asia that Marco encountered on his way to China. Book Two describes China and the court of Kublai Khan. Book Three describes some of the coastal regions of the East such as Japan, India, Sri Lanka, Southeast Asia, and the east coast of Africa. Book Four describes some of the then-recent wars among the Mongols and some of the regions of the far north, like Russia. This book contains all four parts, as well as an epilogue, a genealogical table of the mongol imperial house and two maps of areas visited by Polo. There are also a number of full-colour illustrations. The book is in excellent condition, protected in a cardboard slipcase which has only minor damage itself. Internally, the book has clean pages, strong binding and clear illustrations.
