Vintage Wedgwood Jasper Ware - Blue - Bowl

£100.00 Out Of Stock

Product description

Jasperware, or jasper ware, is a type of pottery first developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s. Usually described as stoneware and noted for its matte and unglazed biscuit finish and is produced in a number of different colours, of which the best known is a pale blue that has become known as Wedgwood Blue. Relief decorations (typically in white but also in other colours) are characteristic of Wedgwood jasperware. They are produced in moulds and applied to the ware as sprigs.

This large example is in the blue colour with White sprigs of a floral nature around the rim and foot with figures and trees around the circumference. The piece is designed to be used as a bowl and stands on a raised pad undercut from the body of the bowl. Comes in perfect condition with no signs of damage. Usual Wedgwood impressed marks to the base.
