Fowler's Bottling Thermometer with box Geo. Fowler Lee & Co. Ltd

£25.00 Out Of Stock

Product description

This is a wonderful item that would look good in any vintage inspired kitchen. It is a bottling thermometer for preserving. A very similar thermometer is held by the National Trust at Tyntesfield, North Somerset (NT 24202.5). It seems fair to say this probably dates from the early 20th century.

This item has survived in really excellent condition for its age. It has the original cardboard tube and straw lined box. It is truly remarkable that this fragile item remains in such good quality.

The thermometer is made by Geo. Fowler Lee & Co Ltd. George Fowler served with the British Royal Army Medical Corps and Regular Army. In 1898 he founded a successful bottling and preserving business in Britain. The company seems to have been influential within this market during the early 20th century.
