Home made Christening Gown - Size: 0 - 12 months

£19.99

Product description

A very beautifully home-made christening gown that is extremely difficult to date - it could have been made anywhere between the 1930s to the 1960s. It is made from fine cotton with a pin-tucked skirt, broderie anglais decorations down the front skirt and bodice and a fine lace trim round the neck. It would have many stories to tell if it could speak and has some light stains as evidence. It has been mended on a number of occasions over the years and a carefully stitched L-shaped tear is visible on the back of the skirt (see photograph). The skirt is 33" long and the gown is about 20" at the waist, though the ties mean this measurement can be very variable. The sleeve holes are about 7". It would need to have the fine ribbon ties replaced before it could be worn.
