Men and Women at Work : The Arm of the Law (OUP, 1951)

£4.99

Product description

Second edition, second impression published in 1951 by Oxford University Press. Stapled booklet.

The Men and Women at Work, Oxford Progressive English series describes many types of work and worker, and discusses the services which each renders to the community as a whole. The purpose was to give practice in English reading, and at the same time introduce the reader to the wide variety of people and occupations involved in even the most familiar goods and services. This title focuses on the role of the police service both in the UK and other Commonwealth countries.

This copy has a particularly fascinating provenance as it carries library stamps from South Africa, and at the time the SA police would have operated very differently to the English country bobby!

In generally clean and good condition, with light rubbing and discolouration to the cover. Pages have one or two finger marks, but are generally clean. Various library stamps and stickers.
