A vintage Primrose League metal and enamel badge in almost fine condition (see photo). With its original box. On the back of the badge is the number RB392238. The material on the mount the badge is pinned to is a little worn at the top edge. The outside of the box is rubbed in places (see photo). Inside the lid in gilt is a crown and "By Appointment T & J Bragg, Birmingham."

The Primrose League began after Benjamin Disraeli died on April 19, 1881. Thousands of people started wearing primroses in their show of grief at his death (it was said his favourite flower was the primrose). The League was formed, with Randolph Churchill holding the number one membership card. His son Winston, aged 22, made his first public speech to a Primrose League rally, on July 26, 1897. By 1910 the League's membership was getting on for two million, The League was finally wound up in 2004, after a 121 years..
