Unique and Historical Men's Suit size L

£49.99

Product description

This suit was made for its first owner by his father in 1967. It was custom made with a double-breasted jacket and 30" wide legs to match the 30" waist and was worn at university until the early 1970s.

It made a guest appearance at a fancy dress murder mystery event in 1994, hence the alterations to the waistband! After more than fifty years, the previous owner has decided that it is time for the suit to start a new chapter.

The man who made this suit learned his tailoring skills in a Manchester orphanage after his father was killed at Ypres in 1917. He then spent 11 years in India in the army before settling in Birmingham to work as a clerk at Hardy Spicer.

During the Second World War, he served as an aircraft technician in Scotland and he also played the euphonium in the Territorial Army Band. He was meticulous as a tailor and very fussy about ironing.

He made a wedding dress and bridesmaids' dresses for his two daughters in 1958. He died of Parkinson's Disease in 1985.

The suit is beautifully made and in excellent condition.

It is double breasted with two hip pockets and a breast pocket. The fabric is dark brown with a pale brown and a darker brown stripe running through it.
