In the days before Spartacus entered the gladiatorial arena there was another hero - Gannicus (Dustin Clare), champion in the days when honour was all but unknown between competitors. Gannicus is the star gladiator of Batiatus (John Hannah), who hopes to rule the whole city, not just an arena, as he prepares to overthrow his father. Batiatus is aided in his ambitions by his politically shrewd wife, Lucretia (Lucy Lawless), and her seductive friend, Gaia (Jaime Murray). Episodes are: 'Past Transgressions', 'Missio', 'Paterfamilias', 'Beneath the Mask', 'Reckoning' and 'The Bitter End'.
