BEETHOVEN: String Quartet No.6 Op.18 No.6 & String Quartet No.11 Op.95 Budapest String Quartet - ML4073

£14.99

Product description

BEETHOVEN

This recording, by the famous Budapest String Quartet, couples the respective final string quartets from Beethoven's First and Middle periods.

The String Quartet No.6 in B flat Major, Op.18 No.6 is in four movements: the first movement begins with a sprightly theme and is generally lighthearted in character; the following Adaigo is music of great melodic charm; the scherzo has a disarming naivete. The final movement is introduced by a dark, mysterious section (La Malinconia) - the main section is interrupted several times by fragments of this theme.

The String Quartet No.11 in F minor, Op.95 (Quartetto Serioso) is possibly the most intense work that Beethoven wrote in this medium. The opening movement, in sonata form, is based on the rugged subject introduced in the opening bars; the slow movement is developed from an extended and strangely inconclusive melody, with a fugal middle section, and leads without a break into the restless and tense scherzo. The finale has a short slow introduction, leading to a sonata form movement with an extended coda based on new material.
