Beethoven: Symphony No 2 in D Major, Op. 36. - Consecration of the House Overture, Op. 124 - Parliament - PLP - 156

£22.99

Product description

Beethoven's second symphony, written at a time in his life when not only was he afflicted with an increasing deafness with which he was having to confront, but was fighting to control emotional conflicts. The music draws intimately from the anguish, the melancholy, and the way Beethoven experienced these. However, what emerges and what most poignantly gives to Beethoven a uniqueness; is a vigorous courage, a dignity and the persistent human ability to appreciate beauty and the nobility of the human spirit. Furthermore, the depth and the thorough complex harmony of the piece caused it to be described critically as "a dragon ran through by a spear, not wanting to die and drained of blood wagging his tail around him.”
The quality of the vinyl has received some minor scratching, and there is a little dust. The box, while bearing some marks on the abrasions at the top and corners, has retained it's singular charm.
Matrix No. PLP 156B.
