Excerpts from The Christmas Oratorio - J S Bach - 89 699

WAS £5.99 £4.79

Product description

(featuring the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Fritz Lehmann, and the Berlin Motet Choir & RIAS Chamber Choir, directed by Gunther Arndt. Starring : soprano Gunthild Weber ; alto Sieglinde Wagner ; tenor Helmut Krebs ; and, bass Heinz Rehfuss)

Although sung in J S Bach's native German, the English lyrics are printed on the reverse sleeve (sample Photo Four).

The Christmas Oratorio, composed by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) in 1734, for the Christmas Church Festival in Leipzig, has been described by the late & legendary, German musicologist Alfred Durr, as one of the pinnacles of world musical literature. The unity of the complete, six-part version, is surely strengthened by Bach's use of the same, strong melody in both the first part, and also the sixth and final part.
