Highlights from early-80s production of Carmen, by Bizet, starring Baltsa & Carreras, Deutsche Grmphn CD

£5.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

This early-eighties production of Carmen, by Georges Bizet, starred the Greek mezzo-soprano Agnes Baltsa, as the titular Carmen, the wayward gypsy girl who entices the soldier, Don Jose, who allows Carmen to escape, when she should have been arrested (for attacking another girl).

Don Jose is played by legendary Spanish tenor, Jose Carreras. The course of the storyline, of this romantic-tragic opera, follows that, Don Jose buys a ring for Carmen, and declares his undying love for her ... but Carmen later rejects Don Jose, still loving her free life ... Don Jose stabs Carmen to death, a death which was earlier predicted by Gypsy girls playing cards.

Some of the other cast members, in this production, were :-
Jose van Dam - Escamillo ; Katia Ricciarelli - Micaela ; Christine Barbaux - Frasquita ; Jane Berbie - Mercedes ; Alexander Malta - Zuniga ; Mikael Melbye - Morales ; Michel Marinpouille - Andres ; Anne-Marie Tostain - Une Marchande ; Alain Pilard - Un Bohemian.

1) Prelude ; 2)-6) Act I ; 7)-11) Act II ; 12)-15) Act III.

The CD is in EX- condition.
