John Tavener: Orthodox Vigil Service celebrated in Christ Church Cathedral Oxford. Ikon IKO 16/17 2 record set

£9.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

Composer: John Tavener
Title: Orthodox Vigil Service Celebrated in Christ Church Cathedral Oxford
Artists: Sung by Christ Church Cathedral Choir under the Direction of Francis Grier; Celebrant The Right Reverend Bishop Kallistos of Diokleia. Deacon: Peter Scorer; Reader: Ian Graham; Bells: Iain Simcock.
Part of explanatory note by John Tavener: The Orthodox Vigil Service was composed between 1983 and 1984. It was commissioned by Francis Grier with funds provided by the Friends of Christ Church Cathedral Oxford. The purpose was to celebrate an Orthodox Vigil Service in an Anglican Cathedral with Orthodox Clergy celebrating and an Anglican Choir singing. This, it is hoped, will go a long way to promote relations between the Orthodox and Anglican Churches. The text of Vespers and Mattins is sung in English, with certain important sections in Greek and Church Slavonic. Since the use of musical instruments is forbidden in the Orthodox Church, I have only used hand-bells to 'punctuate' at certain points. ...

Oxfam Bookshop St Albans

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller, but it doesn't stop there. We sell a great range of donated music as well. Whether it's vintage LPs or the latest modern fiction you want, we're well worth a look! We also sell greetings cards for every occasion. And of course we have some great stock for sale on Oxfam's Online Shop, too. Call us to find out more.

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
