Janet Baker (born 1933), more or less, inherited the title of Top English Contralto, after the untimely passing-away of Kathleen Ferrier, in 1953. On this two-CD collection, she sings the works of no less than nineteen different, legendary composers, backed by various orchestras, who were conducted by the likes of Sir Neville Marriner, Andre Previn, Sir John Barbirolli and Sir Adrian Boult, among others.
