Rico Saccani was the Music Director, and Artistic Advisor, to the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, Hungary, in the late 90's and early 2000's, and held the post, during the Orchestra's 150th anniversary celebrations, in 2003. The recordings here, are from June 1999.
The CD begins, with Pyotr Tchaikovsky's "Manfred" Symphonic Poem, or it is sometimes referred to as, the "non-numbered" symphony, composed between the official Fourth and Fifth (the Russian composed six official symphonies). Biographers of Tchaikovsky, debate whether this exclusion, from the official list, was either unintentional, or, as some believe, an ironic reference to the eponymous hero of the work, (- the British poet, Lord Byron's creation -) "Manfred".
"Manfred" Symphonic Poem Op.58, by Tchaikovsky (1885 ; 54:28) :-
1) I Lento Lugubre 2) II Vivace con spirit 3) III Pastorale, Andante con moto 4) IV Allegro con fuoco.
Sergei Rachmaninov's "Vocalise" was originally the last of a set of 14 songs for voice and piano, composed in 1912. It is one of Rachmaninov's most enduring short works.
5) "Vocalise", by Rachmaninov (1912 ; 6:39).
The CD is in EX+ condition.
