Paul Tortelier ‎– Plays Rachmaninov & Chopin Cello Sonatas Paul Tortelier - ASD2587

£10.99

Product description

Paul Tortelier was a dazzling cellist and composer, but he was also an intriguing person who was ardent in following his convictions, his views and values. One complimented the other, and his music was known for and elegance and passion which imparted to it a certain intimate imprint of the composer, an originality of voice which, while not departing from the authenticity of the original piece, imbued it with an eloquent and individual sincerity. The New York times, in appreciating the creative freedom of Tortelier, wrote he "showed no concern for fashionable notions of proper period practice" but that "his playing was on the whole so eloquent that it swept those considerations aside."
